Do I have to undress completely for bodywork? It depends on what you need worked on! Any garment left on for a massage I see as a boundary and I will either avoid it completely or work through the sheet/clothing if permitted. If you are scheduled for reflexology, all you need to do is take your socks and shoes off.

Should bodywork hurt to be effective? No. I will work with you to find that fine line of “hurts so good” without going too far and causing pain. If you find yourself grimacing or holding your breath through the pain, then your sympathetic nervous system or “fight or flight” is activated. In this state, relaxation and healing are unattainable. Everyone has different pain tolerances. Please don’t hesitate to speak up if you need more or less pressure at anytime. I will check in with you throughout your session as well.

I’m self conscious, I really don’t think I can relax on a massage table!I’ve been there! A lot of folks can be self conscious, but I assure you, I as the practitioner see you as a body on my table that I am helping and that’s it. Body hair, blemishes, the size of your body, health conditions, etc are nothing to be embarrassed about. I am here to help you, not judge you. My space will always be safe and inclusive. That said, if you are very apprehensive about getting on a massage table, I encourage you to try reflexology, as you can stay fully clothed (besides socks and shoes).

Can I receive bodywork while pregnant?Yes. Massage and reflexology are safe for all stages of pregnancy. Certain areas of the body will be avoided or only light pressure applied, but body work can be very beneficial for those that are expecting. Labor outcomes can be improved, as well as pain and discomfort from monumental changes in your body. I have bolsters for both side lying or prone (face down). I ensure my prenatal clients are comfortable, supported and safe for the duration of their appointment.

What are the benefits of pregnancy massage?Pregnancy massage has been found to relieve back, muscle and joint pain, sciatica, leg cramps, headaches and reduce swelling and stress. It is a popular alternative for pain relief, as medications are often limited.

Is prenatal massage beneficial for the baby?Absolutely! Studies have shown that, when you receive a relaxing prenatal massage, the body naturally secretes endorphins. These “feel good” hormones traverse the placenta and ultimately soothe and relax your baby.
